Lot 2948
Constantine I, 307/310-337. Follis (Silvered bronze, 18 mm, 2.63 g, 12 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Ticinum. Irregular mint, after 322. CONSTANTINVS AVG Laureate head of Constantine I to right. Rev. D N CONSTANTINI MNX AV / PTD around wreath containing VOT / XX in two lines above crescent. Cf. RIC 167 (for possible prototype). Slightly rough and with very minor weakness on the reverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

The coin's style distinctly marks it as an unofficial contemporary 'barbarous' imitation. It appears to replicate Ticinum RIC 167, with the addition of a D after PT, rather than resembling a Trier coin. The closest Trier counterpart, RIC 439, is probably also an unofficial issue.
